How to Take a Screenshot

For Mac Users:

  • Whole Screen:
    1. Press Shift + Command (⌘) + 3.
    2. The screenshot is saved to your desktop as a PNG file.
  • Portion of the Screen:
    1. Press Shift + Command (⌘) + 4. Your cursor changes to a crosshair.
    2. Click and drag to select the area you want to capture, then release the mouse button.
    3. The screenshot is saved to your desktop as a PNG file.
  • Window Screenshot:
    1. Press Shift + Command (⌘) + 4, then press the Spacebar. The cursor changes to a camera icon.
    2. Click the window you want to capture.
    3. The screenshot is saved to your desktop as a PNG file.

For Windows Users:

  • Whole Screen and Saving Automatically:
    1. Press PrtScn (Print Screen) key. On laptops, you may need to press Fn + PrtScn or Windows logo key + PrtScn.
    2. The screenshot is copied to the clipboard and saved to the Screenshots folder in your Pictures folder.
  • Active Window:
    1. Click on the window you want to capture.
    2. Press Alt + PrtScn. On laptops, you may need to press Fn + Alt + PrtScn.
    3. Paste (Ctrl + V) the screenshot into an image editor or document.
  • Using Snipping Tool/Snip & Sketch:
    1. Open Snipping Tool (Windows 7/8) or Snip & Sketch (Windows 10).
    2. Click New or Ctrl + N to create a new snip.
    3. Select the area you want to capture.
    4. Save the screenshot by clicking the Save Snip button.

Tips:

  • Mac Users: You can use Command (⌘) + Shift + 5 in macOS Mojave or later to access more screenshot options and settings.
  • Windows Users: Windows 10 users can also press Windows logo key + Shift + S to open the Snip & Sketch tool directly.
  • Editing: After taking a screenshot, you can paste it (Ctrl + V) into an application like Paint (Windows) or Preview (Mac) to edit.
